Athletic Prominence, $120 million

Athletics has been, and will continue to be, an important part of college life at
UofL. Through past success, athletic programs have become deeply
embedded not just in the life of the University, but also the life of the community.
UofL’s athletic teams attract more than 500,000 supporters in attendance each
year, generate significant economic value to the community and serve as a
source of community pride. We must provide and update athletic facilities
and raise endowment funds for student-athletic scholarships. In addition to
the Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium renovation and participation in the KFC
Yum! Center, the most pressing athletic needs are an academic center for
student athletes, the continued renovation of facilities and endowed scholarships. Since the early stages of the campaign, our athletics program has raised more than $95 million. Most of these funds will provide scholarship support and underwrite the debts for the stadium expansion.
