The mission of the J.B. Speed School of Engineering is to serve the university, the Commonwealth of Kentucky and the engineering profession by providing high-quality educational programs to all students; engage in research and scholarship that will extend knowledge; and assist the economic development of the regional, state and national economies through technology transfer.
J.B. Speed School of Engineering Priorities Total:
For the J.B. Speed School to meet our objectives, we need:
To build additional classroom, laboratory and office space for the mechanical engineering department.
Amount needed: $15 million
To upgrade 150,000 sq. ft. of space in two buildings on the Kentucky Trailer property to house faculty and student projects from various departments.
Amount needed: $4 million
To expand the faculty to include two endowed chairs, at a cost of $2.5 million each, and two endowed professorships, at $2 million each, in areas determined by the dean.
Amount needed: $9 million
To expand the faculty of the department of mechanical engineering by four faculty members, requiring an endowment of $1.5 million each.
Amount needed: $6 million
To establish an endowment that yields new revenue in the amount of $500,000 annually to hire at least five individuals to staff research laboratories in renewable energy and environmental stewardship.
Amount needed: $10 million
