School of Medicine

The University of Louisville School of Medicine is a community of scholars dedicated to the generation, conservation and dissemination of knowledge about the causes, prevention and treatment of human disease. Our mission is to be a vital component in UofL’s quest to become a premier, nationally recognized metropolitan research university, to excel in the education of physicians and scientists for careers in teaching, research, patient care and community service, and to bring the fundamental discoveries of our basic and clinical scientists to the bedside.

Amount needed: $10 million

Funding for the modernization of the Anatomy Lab

Amount needed: $3.5 million

Funding for four endowed chairs, of $2 million each, in basic science departments in the medical school

Amount needed: $8 million

Funding for endowed chairs, of $2 million each, in the following clinical departments:

  • Anesthesiology
  • Diagnostic Radiology
  • Emergency Medicine
  • Family and Geriatric Medicine
  • Medicine
  • Neurological Medicine
  • Obstetrics and Medicine
  • Ophthalmology and Visual Medicine
  • Orthopedics
  • Pathology and Laboratory Medicine
  • Pediatrics
  • Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences
  • Radiation Oncology
  • Surgery

Amount needed $32 million

Funding for three additional endowed chairs in surgery at $2 million each

Amount needed: $6 million

Funding for endowed chairs, of $2 million each, in eight divisions within the Department of Medicine including:

  • Cardiovascular Medicine
  • Dermatology
  • Endocrinology, Metabolism & Diabetes
  • Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition
  • General Internal Medicine, Palliative Medicine and Medical Education
  • Medical Oncology/Hematology
  • Nephrology
  • Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Disorders Medicine

Amount needed: $16 million

Funding for lectureships, professorships, junior professorships and fellowships, funded at the dean’s discretion, from $50,000 to $1.5 million each

Amount needed: $4 million

Funding for endowed chairs, lectureships and library materials for the Medical Humanities and Medical Ethics Programs

Amount needed: $10 million

Funding for faculty development and equipment

Amount needed: $1.5 million

Funding for the construction of an autism center and endowment of the director’s position

Amount needed: $50 million

Funding for the creation of an academic division of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Medicine

Amount needed: $5 million

Funding for the construction of a depression center

Amount needed: $10 million

Funding for an endowed position for a low-vision, visual rehabilitation services and ophthalmology clinic

Amount needed: $1 million

Funding for an endowment for pediatric allergy education

Amount needed: $1 million

Funding for an endowed professorship for pediatric forensics and operating expenses

Amount needed: $1 million

Research fund for all areas
